With UshagoStyle Down2Earth building you will be able to self build a debt free home that is beautiful, unique and according to how much you would like to spend, without borrowing.
We work with you, to help you build your own house or structures, debt free, using earth (cob or adobe as it is known in the West), applying the Western Kenya traditional house building mud technology (Litoyi') of the Abaluyia people, inherited from our ancestors. I am passionate about keeping it simple, natural, affordable, and accessible to all, and enabling you to build a house without short or long term debt.
Why the Name UshagoStyle
The word 'Ushago', is a colloquialism in Kenya and means 'upcountry or rural', what the colonialists used to call the 'reserves' that were created to keep the black Kenyan African out of the cities.
The name Ushago Style building fully describes the 'style' of building using 'litoyi' the Abaluyia word for 'mud'. For most people in the urban centers', the concept of building with mud equals a mud hut, and viewed as still 'backward' or for the very poor in the rural areas...NOT SO....
UshagoStyle Building sets out to prove that the concept of building with mud has come into the 21st century and you can build beautiful houses, without locking yourself into loans as so many home builders are doing. In the West, building with mud known as 'adobe' or 'cob' has become very popular due to the low cost of building. Ushago Style building also sets out to reclaim the house building skills in Western Kenya inherited by our ancestors, and tailored to the 21st century lifestyle.
